NPIP testing - being certified for a clean flock

Last Friday was our bi-annual NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Program) testing. In the spring and fall Lorraine comes out to the farm and does a blood test on all of our birds. This is to make sure our flock is "clean" for Pullorum and Avian Influenza. We ship day old chicks all over the USA and this is required to ship across state lines. It's amazing how the birds just lay on their side and wait for her to draw blood! Then, back to the pen with a little shake of feathers.
